Light trails on the Hawthorn Bridge

The Hawthorne Bridge is a truss bridge with a vertical lift that spans the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon, joining Hawthorne Boulevard and Madison Street. It is the oldest vertical-lift bridge in operation in the United States and the oldest highway bridge in Portland. It is also the busiest bicycle and transit bridge in Oregon, with over 8,000 cyclists and 800 TriMet buses (carrying about 17,400 riders) daily.

📺 Episode 3 of Essential Life

One minute, I was strolling through the quaint neighborhoods and gentle parks of west Hillsboro…mere miles away from Portland, OR. Next thing you know, I’m totally LOST in the the woods! Do I ever make it out alive??? You’ll just have to watch this video to find out.

Working in the Pearl District of #portland when it’s such gorgeous weather out feels like cheating. If there’s any legit use of the hashtag “blessed,” this is it!

Over the weekend, I spent a glorious day in #portland shooting a mega ton of footage for the trailer to my revamped YouTube channel. Also got to put my new Canon EOS 77D through its paces. I’m wild with anticipation how the final edit’s going to turn out! 🙌‬

We’re approaching the end of the main season for rose blossoms, so I was thrilled that the Rose Garden up in Washington Park in Portland, OR still has some exquisite roses blooming. Check it out if you’re in the area…one of my favorite spots in the city!

Now that Bird e-scooters have come to #portland, I was finally able to see what all the fuss is about. Infrastrucure and safety issues aside…wow, these are fun to ride! I got the same thrill of excitement when accelerating as I did when I first tried an e-assist bike a couple of years ago. I didn’t go very far because I forgot to bring a helmet and didn’t want to tempt fate, but I can definitely imagine using these a lot whenever I come into town (as long as I remember to bring my helmet!).

Oh, and here’s phrase I never thought I’d hear uttered: The Portland Scooter War.

Coinbase to open large Portland office

San Francisco cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase confirmed its plans to open a downtown Portland office and offered more details on its Rose City plans.

The fast-growing company intends to hire up to 100 people in Portland as part of an office that will include customer support, finance, compliance, IT and human resources, the company said in an announcement.

“Opening a new office in Portland will help us tap into the city’s incredibly talented, innovative open-source and blockchain communities,” said Tina Bhatnagar, vice president of operations and technology in a written statement.

Despite the extremely rocky road that #cryptocurrency has traversed this year, I remain very bullish on this technology. I believe the future of #finance and transactional systems is clearly on the side of software-based monetary constructs, and no other company I’m aware of is better positioned right now to drive us toward that future than Coinbase. (Full disclosure: I own a very modest amount of cryptocurrency.)

#portland has been a hotbed for financial startups for quite a while now (Simple is but one example), so it makes a great deal of sense for Coinbase to establish a large presence here. Hopefully that will serve to strengthen the fintech industry here overall.

Eating lunch at the new food court at Pioneer Place (downtown mall in #portland) and so far the ambient music playing has featured Invisible Touch by Genesis, Stepping Out by Joe Jackson, and Under African Skies by Paul Simon. Ah, the sounds of my childhood…

I posted this photo on Reddit a couple of days ago, and shortly thereafter someone pointed out that it contained a hidden Peace symbol. Then another commentor noted that it was a left-wing Peace symbol at that. I love Reddit. 😂😂😂

I had the opportunity to take my family on a tour of the U.S.S. Portland, docked here in its namesake city for a formal commissioning. A fine #ship it is! We got to meet some of the crew and see quite a few areas in nearly all decks. Also enjoyed the lovely weather after nearly a week of rain! #portland
