🍂 September already. Can you believe it?
📩 I'm mixing up the format for this newsletter. It's all part of a larger effort which I talk about on my Now Page to reduce friction in my workflow and better connect my tools with my creative motivation. So instead of thinking of my newsletter as a platform for essay writing (that really should be reserved for my blog), it's more about "what I'm up to right now and how might I inspire you today." Hope it sticks! 🤞 (also 😃 way 😁 more 🤩 emojis 😍 !)
🎙 I recently put out a new Fresh Fusion Podcast episode all about creative tools and workflow…not to get all in the weeds with nerdy productivity talk, but to encourage you that you can really go from meh to yay! if you take the time to experiment with the right approach. Sometimes we procrastinate and don't achieve the success we imagine for ourselves not because we don't want to create, but because the effort feels overwhelming. So it's vital to disover ways to reduce the overwhelm, to streamline, to make it feel more like fun and less like work.
📺 I've also been vlogging regularly again (as I alluded to in the previous issue of Creator Class) which has been a huge barrel of fun. So far I've done a few stints in the Portland area and one up in Seattle (next one coming hopefully within the next week), and while editing continues to be a major time sink (so much more work than writing or podcasting!), I feel like the emotional reward is well worth it. Vlogging truly benefits my mental health like no other medium. Maybe it's due to the "selfie" nature of it…getting to rewatch yourself enjoying amazing locations or trying exciting new activities (like kayaking on the Willamette River)!
🔗 Some stuff I've posted lately on the blog:
- From iPhone mini to iPhone Pro — I’ve heard some grumblings about the overall lack of progress in the standard iPhone lineup this year, and I get that. But for me it’s not an issue, because there’s no way I would ever upgrade from an iPhone mini to one of the standard iPhones. If I’m forced to leave the world of the mini behind, I’m going Pro. No question about it.
- Patreon is laying off 17 percent of its workforce and closing offices — I’m genuinely sorry about all the people having to leave Patreon, and I wish them well in their new job search. BUT…the unfortunate truth is, the indie spirit left the building some time ago, and now Patreon is beholden to their Venture Capitalist overlords. In short, Patreon genuinely sucks. 😒 You hate to see it… 😭
